Dame Helen Mirren wanted as Alma Reville in Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho

08 December 2011

Oscar winning cinema legend Dame Helen Mirren is now in negotiations to play the famed filmmaker’s wife, Alma Reville in the long-gestating bio-drama Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho.

The Hitchcock film has been in development for quite a few years now and originally sprang to life at Paramount with Glee creator Ryan Murphy originally tempted Anthony Hopkins to play the lead.

However Murphy has since left the project and Anvil! The Story Of Anvil director Sasha Gervasi has stepped in with Fox Searchlight backing the film which still has cinema legend Sir Anthony Hopkins still set to play the lead.

Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho is being written by Black Swan co-writer John McLaughlin based on the non-fiction tome by Stephen Rebello that chronicles Hitch’s struggle to make Psycho even when he was at the height of his career.

Mirren's involvement is a positive sign that the film will make it to cinemas, and Heat Vision report that Gervasi wants to get the film in front of cameras in April.

As for Mirren she was last seen as the older Rachel Singer in the Sam Worthington starring The Debt and has István Szabó's The Door in post production.
