Daniel Day-Lewis is officially Honest Abe in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln biopic

21 November 2010

Prolific character actor Daniel Day-Lewis has officially been cast as President Abraham Lincoln in the long awaited biopic Lincoln from legendary film maker Steven Spielberg.

In an official statement from DreamWorks Spielberg said “Daniel Day-Lewis would have always been counted as one of the greatest of actors, were he from the silent era, the golden age of film or even some time in cinema's distant future. I am grateful and inspired that our paths will finally cross with Lincoln."

Day-Lewis who is known for his villainous role in There will be Blood and was announced as Professor Moriarty in the currently in production Sherlock Holmes sequel replaces the long attached Liam Neeson in the biopic based on Pulitzer Price-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book Team of Rivals, which chronicles the president’s struggles with his cabinet as he tries to end slavery around the time of the Civil War’s last gasp. Tony Kushner has been hard at work crafting a screenplay. The film is said to start shooting in 2011 with a 2012 release date.
