DC Comics Are Coming Out Of The Shadows – The Flash and Aquaman

09 January 2015

Following last week’s analysis of the eagerly awaited Justice League: Part 1 starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller, Shaun Wren returns with an analysis of the 2018 releases of The Flash starring Ezra Miller and Aquaman starring Jason Momoa.

The Flash – 23rd March 2018 (USA)

This was the film confirming the TV universe and Cinematic universe won’t be connected. Which begs the question, why isn’t it?

This is no offence to Ezra Miller but if you've got someone as good as Grant Gustin and with the TV show receiving great reviews also by the time the movie released the TV show could be in its fifth or sixth season, then why do we need another Flash? Although to be fair it might not be Barry Allen on the big screen.

Arrow star Stephen Amell talked to the Wall Street Journal about the splitting saying “I feel like it should be Grant doing the movie. But the important thing to remember is just because Grant Gustin plays the part of Barry Allen doesn’t mean Ezra Miller can’t also play Barry Allen.

“There can be different interpretations of the character. Anyone who is a fan of the comics knows the Flash character is one of the forces that leads to parallel universes.”

This is the only way WB and DC can explain this decision I just hope Miller does bring something different and with Jai Courtney playing Captain Boomerang in the Suicide Squad it could be likely he’ll be in this movie as well due to the fact Boomerang is one of The Flash’s main villains.

Also, depending on what happens in Justice League, the more iconic Flash villain is Reverse Flash, so we'll see what Warner Bros. have up their sleeves.

The other question is what does this mean of Amell and Green Arrow?

Aquaman – 27th July 2018 (USA)

Thanks to The New 52 Aquaman is no longer the joke of the Justice League. Arthur Curry is now a kick ass king of Atlantis and leader of the Justice League and unlike Superman and Batman he doesn’t have the moral code and does kill (if you ignore Superman killing Zod in Man of Steel).

Also in The New 52 Justice League: Origin he temporarily blinds Darkseid.

Despite being a badass people still make jokes, for example, in Justice League: Origin when Green Lantern makes a crack saying “Aquaman? I thought Aquaman was a sketch on Conan O’Brien.”

Casting Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) was a great idea even though I thought he would be a villain for the Justice League. You can see why DC wanted him to be Aquaman at 6ft 4 Momoa will be physically able to compete with Henry Cavill (6ft 1) and Ben Affleck (6ft 3).

Also playing Khal Drogo, he has shown off his physicality in combat also the storyline from Geoff Johns’ graphic novel Aquaman is a man looking for belonging and Momoa has done it in the past.

While he’s not everyone's choice as the clean shaven, blond hair Arthur Curry everyone knows Momoa can make Aquaman as iconic as the comic book thanks to writer Johns.

The solo film itself will come 9 months after Justice League: Part 1 so it might focus on how the events of the Justice League has affected Atlantis or a another origin story, which it could follow the graphic novels such as Throne of Atlantis, which is getting an animated film release at the end of this mouth, or see him up against The Trench a horrific race of amphibious creatures.

We know Momoa will be in Dawn of Justice it’s just in which capacity will we see him the likelihood is we meet Arther Curry personally I’d like to see Aquaman come to find Superman to get answers for the events of Man of Steel.

A story came about from the Sony hack with The Daily Beast reporting indie director Jeff Nichols (Mud) would be at the helm of this movie.
