DHX Media and Mattel Creations announce FIREMAN SAM: ALIEN ALERT with David Tennant as the voice of Buck Douglas

DHX MEDIA AND MATTEL CREATIONS ANNOUNCE INTERNATIONAL LICENSES FOR FIREMAN SAM™ SPECIAL AND BRAND NEW EPISODES AND SPECIAL GREENLIT

Licenses in key markets for 60’ special Fireman Sam: Alien Alert, featuring voice of David Tennant

DHX Media (or the "Company") (NASDAQ: DHXM; TSX: DHX.A, DHX.B), the world’s leading independent, pure-play kids content company and Mattel Creations, a centralised theatrical, television and digital content creation division from Mattel Inc., has underscored the global appeal of animated hero Fireman Sam licensing the 60’ special Fireman Sam: Alien Alert to key European markets.

Deals include a license to Pathé Live, which will release the special theatrically in France in over 180 cinemas from February 2017, as well as Universal home video in France. Cartoonito in Italy has picked up the special for television, and justbridge has also come on board for theatrical and home entertainment release in Germany, with Fireman Sam: Alien Alert scheduled to hit theatres in January 2017. Additionally, season 10 of the show has recently been signed to Clan TV in Spain and France 5 extending the reach of the preschool favourite in Europe.

Ahead of MIPCOM, DHX Media and Mattel Creations also announced they will co-produce an additional 13x10’ episodes of the Fireman Sam series bringing the number of seasons available of the hit show to eleven as well as brand new special for 2018.

Fireman Sam: Alien Alert is a new feature-length CG-animated 2017 special produced by Mattel Creations (HIT Entertainment), and distributed by DHX Media which handles distribution for all Fireman Sam content worldwide.

Featuring the voice of multi-award-winning Scottish actor David Tennant (Doctor Who, Harry Potter) as humorous villain Buck Douglas Fireman Sam: Alien Alert introduces a new location and characters in a storyline full of twists and turns, while delivering all the action and adventure kids know and love from Fireman Sam.

Fireman Sam is currently riding high with 2015 NPD Data placing it as No.1 pre-school character property in Germany (four to five times higher than the second placed character property) and Top 5-character property in pre-school vehicles for key territories. It is also a Top 5 performing pre-school show across key markets and experienced double digit growth during 2015 with NPD data showing continued growth for Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Earlier this year, Fireman Sam series 10 struck deals with European broadcasters Cartoonito (UK), RTE Ireland, RTL Telekids (Netherlands) and VTM Kazoom Medialaan (Belgium).

Synopsis of Fireman Sam: Alien Alert
When alien hunter come TV presenter Buck Douglas, played by multi-award winning actor David Tennant (Doctor Who, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), arrives in Pontypandy, the town gets a little over-excited at the prospect of featuring on Buck’s ‘Alien Quest’ TV show. With UFO sightings and mild peril on the increase, Fireman Sam sets off to find out what’s behind all this sudden alien activity. But when a big stunt by Buck Douglas goes awry and causes a forest fire, the team have to work together to get everyone to safety and Fireman Sam becomes even more determined to get to the bottom of the mysterious events. Will the town of Pontypandy descend into chaos? What is Buck Douglas up to? And will Fireman Sam discover what’s behind the unusual goings-on? The truth is definitely out there.
