Diane Lane is Martha Kent in Superman: Man of Steel

Hollywood beauty and Oscar nominee Diane Lane, best known for her roles in The Perfect Storm, Unfaithful and Murder at 1600 has joined the cast of Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel as Martha Kent!

This casting news is important since Martha is one of the guiding forces in Superman's life. The iconic part is currently being played by former Lana Lang actress Annette O'Toole on Smallville for the last ten years.

Director Zack Snyder said “This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

With the other castings: Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent merely rumour at the moment, the only other confirmed casting is Henry Cavill who is busy getting into shape to slip into the iconic red and blues. Shooting is set to start in August, so expect a lot more announcements as the year progresses.
