Director James Gunn reveals what characters to expect in Marvel

26 January 2015

In a Facebook Q&A Guardians of the Galaxy director Jamess Gunn has revealed some facts about what we can expect character-wise from the  much anticipated second instalment.

In a heroic act of sacrifice we all thought that we had lost Groot, while Gunn has confirmed that the eloquent hero will be returning he hinted that he could be assuming a different form, saying "Well, who says baby Groot is Groot and not Groot's son?"

When asked whether villain Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) would be making an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 he revealed that while he might return in the franchise he will not be in the Phase Three outing.

Another character who will not be reappearing is Glenn Closes’s Nova Prime.

There was also talk of new characters with questions about whether Lylla, Rocket Raccoon’s otter love interest in the comic, would be appearing in the franchise. Gunn gave no firm answer saying "You'll have to wait and see on Lylla. But I will say I think a raccoon being sexually attracted to an otter is similar to a human being sexually attracted to a possum."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is scheduled for release in 2017.
