Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out Beats Tom Cruise to Christmas Number One Spot

Official Video Chart reveals the biggest selling DVD/Blu-ray at Christmas
Families across the nation are set for tears of joy on Christmas Day as Disney•Pixar's animated adventure Inside Out takes the Christmas Number one spot as the best selling DVD and Blu-ray, according to data released on Sunday from the Official Charts Company. The film, which tells the story of a young girl and her five personified emotions Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust, has sold over 600,000 copies cumulatively since it was released to own on DVD and Blu-ray in November. It pushes out last week’s number one Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (Paramount) – Tom Cruise’s fifth instalment as Ethan Hawke in the successful action franchise. Fantastic Four, 20th Century Fox’s latest reboot of the comic book franchise, makes this week’s only new entry at number 3.
Elsewhere in the chart, Minions (Universal Pictures) is up one place from the previous week to number 4, above Marvel’s Ant-Man which drops to 5.
In the battle of the funny men, Michael McIntyre (no. 6) beats Mrs Brown’s Boys (no. 7) and Kevin Bridges (no. 8) as the biggest selling comedy DVD/Blu-ray this week, with the trio set to fill thousands of stockings between them this Christmas.
Sony’s Pixels and Universal’s summer blockbuster Jurassic World round out the top 10, with 2003 Christmas favourite Will Ferrell as Elf just missing out on the top 10 chart, taking the number 11 spot. And after a record-beating box office opening for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans new and old are clearly catching up with the franchise as the Star Wars Trilogy box-set moves up 21 spots this week into the number 15 position.
With 9 shopping days left until end of the year, the biggest selling title of 2015 is still up for grabs. The final Number 1 of the year and the year-end video chart will be published on 3rd January.
