Disney Releases including AVENGERS: ENDGAME + ALADDIN Take Top Spots As 4DX Announces 15% Global Increase of 4DX Box Office Takings
CJ 4DPLEX, the world's leading cinema technology company, today announced that the multi-sensory 4DX format marked £17 million, up 15% from £15 million in global box office takings from November last year. It is the highest box office figure recorded for the month of November in the history of the company.
As of November, the number of cumulative global box office of 4DX has reached £213 million, again besting last year’s results. The expected total global box office for 2019 is £244 million with the highest grossing in the history of the company. The top 5 films of this year in 4DX, “Avengers: Endgame”,”Aladdin”,” The Lion King”, “Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw”, “Captain Marvel”, grossed a total of $100 million at the global box office.
In November, strong performance was driven by the Hollywood big titles including “Frozen 2”, “Terminator: Dark Fate” and “Ford v. Ferrari”. In particular “Frozen 2” brought over 1 million audiences to the 4DX auditorium during November, flocking to experience the film in the exciting cinema format. In UK, “Frozen2” 4DX opened with strong occupancy rates in the first weekend of the film’s release. Newly opened Cineworld Plymouth marked some of the highest 4DX occupancy rates in November and received overwhelming positive responses from its audiences. In addition, “Ford v Ferrari”, “Terminator: Dark Fate” and “Midway” 4DX showings also appealed to various ages.
In December, more highly anticipated blockbusters will be released in 4DX, such as “Jumanji: The Next Level” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
With its positive results, 4DX has newly opened 18 auditoriums in 11 countries during November, including 2 4DX auditoriums in UK. To date, 4DX operates 710 screens in 65 countries.
Additionally, CJ 4DPLEX unveiled the brand new logos for 4DX and its sister brand ScreenX. The objective for the new logo is to revitalize the overall aesthetic, improving logo visibility and ensuring consistency among brands (4DX, ScreenX). CJ 4DPLEX hopes the new branding will cement 4DX and ScreenX as a must for global movie fans.
