Blake Lively stars as Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction after her family is tragically killed in a plane crash. When Stephanie discovers that the crash was not an accident, she enters a dark, complex world to seek revenge on those responsible and find her own redemption. Based on the novel by Mark Burnell, from director Reed Morano (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and the producers of the James Bond film series, The Rhythm Section also stars Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown.

Ahead of the home entertainment release of the highly anticipated The Rhythm Section, starring Blake Lively, Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown, it’s time to look back at some of the most well known, famous and mysterious agents within the film world. The Rhythm Section is available to Download & Keep from Monday 13th April.

The Bourne Identity
Arguably one of the most enjoyable agent series comes from Matt Damon portraying Jason Bourne, the amnesiac assassin based on the character in Robert Ludlum’s books. The Bourne Identity kicks off this thrilling trilogy with Bourne being picked up in the middle of the ocean by a fishing trawler. How did he get there? What is his name? Why does he have a persistent headache? As memories start to trickle back to him and his abilities start to prove he is not just ‘ordinary’, the fights, car chases and lingering questions begin to erupt on screen as the mysterious CIA Blackops unit tails Bourne. If you haven’t seen this film, give it a watch and you’ll probably (definitely) want more - so thankfully you have The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum to satisfy your cravings!

Red Sparrow
Jennifer Lawrence stars in this gritty thriller set in the bleak backdrop of modern-day Russia. Dominika Egorova (Lawrence) is a ballet dancer in the Russian ballet before a career ending injury renders her no longer able to perform. With her inability to get a job and look after her sick mother, her sinister Uncle asks her to perform a task for him which inadvertently ends up with a Russian gangster being murdered in front of her. Given the choice of becoming a Sparrow (agents equipped with deadly seduction skills) or being killed, Dominika enters a world of subterfuge and lies with no idea who to trust. Lawrence gives a commanding performance with the film taking unsuspecting twists and turns at every chance.

Atomic Blonde
Starring Charlize Theron and James McAvoy, Atomic Blonde immerses us in 1989 Berlin (prior to the wall coming down). Lorraine Broughton (Theron), with the help of David Percival ( McAvoy) needs to track down a list of double agents stolen from a fellow agent who was killed for it. Stylistic, bloody and action packed, this agent thriller has it all with an air punching soundtrack to boot.

Salt
Who is Evelyn Salt? Well that’s exactly what the CIA intend to find out in the 2010 action thriller starring Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Salt (Jolie) is a CIA operative who interviews a Russian defector called Oleg Orlov; he admits to a secret plot of sleeper agents (known as KA’s) in the US with KA-12 assassinate the Russian President when he visits the country. The identity of KA-12? Evelyn Salt. A rip roaring narrative unravels, leaving you with questions and second guessing everything you see...has Salt been set-up or is she truly a Russian spy?

Spy
One of the standout comedy hits of 2015 (if not of the last decade), Spy is director Paul Feig’s comedy turn on the agent genre. A star studded cast featuring Melissa McArthy, Rose Byrne, Jude Law, Jason Statham, Allison Janey and Miranda Hart to name but a few, Spy takes us on the hilarious journey of CIA analyst Susan Cooper (McArthy) as she ventures into the field for the first time. Rayna Boyanov (Byrne) is the big bad with a plan to sell a suitcase nuke to a terrorist with the CIA helpless; Boyanov knows the identity of all their agents. Which is where Susan Cooper comes in; a plethora of one liners, twisting plot line and Jason Statham on top, top form (seriously, he is brilliant) leads this film to the forefront of the agent genre!

The Rhythm Section
Paramount Pictures released The Rhythm Section, starring Blake Lively, Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown early in 2020. The film centres on Stephanie Patrick (Lively), a lost soul who is spiralling out of control after a plane crash kills her entire family. When a journalist approaches her claiming the crash was no accident and instead a terrorist act, she embarks on a journey to seek revenge on those who took everything from her. An incredibly visceral and raw take on the agent genre, The Rhythm Section is a must-see film for Lively’s steely edged portrayal of someone with nothing to lose. The Rhythm Section is available to Download & Keep from Monday 13th April.
