Eddie Murphy is front runner for Oscars 2012 host
Hollywood funnyman Eddie Murphy best known for roles in the Beverly Hills Cop and Shrek franchises is reported to be the front runner to host the 2012 Oscars.
According to many sources, Oscar nominee Murphy is the top choice of producers Don Mischer and Brett Ratner, however the news could be seen as surprising since the publicity-shy Murphy hasn’t performed on stage for two decades and isn’t known as someone used to hosting events.
But since he made his name on the comedy circuit and he's got the comedic brain that would work well on a live show, plus there have been rumours of him returning to stand up.
Murphy also has a connection to Ratner, as he stars with Ben Stiller in the crime caper Tower Heist that comes to cinemas on November 4.
While this is all speculation at the moment, The LA Times reports that an announcement could be made as early as this week.
