AMG International Film Ltd have announced three key roles for its forthcoming production of PRISONERS OF PARADISE. Deals have been finalised with Ellie Bamber (The Trial of Christine Keeler, Les Miserables, Nocturnal Animals) playing the role of Lucy, Mehdi Dehbi (Messiah, A Most Wanted Man, The Other Son) taking on the role of Krishna and Rupert Penry-Jones (Love Sarah, Vita & Virginia, Matchpoint) playing George. Principal photography is due to commence on location in Mauritius during the third week of September marking one of the first major motion pictures to go into production following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Edward Akrout (Rodin, Killing Eve, Genius Picasso) also joins the cast in the role of Antoine and Mitch Jenkins (The Show, Showpieces) will direct from an original screenplay by Alan Govinden and Jason Wingard. The film will be Produced by Alan Govinden (Sulphur & White) of AMG International Film Ltd. Stuart Howell (The Crown) has been attached as DOP.

Set in Mauritius in 1925, a time of social tension, the island paradise forms the stunning backdrop for a true coming-of-age love story. Orphaned, 17-year-old Lucy Gladwell has been sent from England to live under the guardianship of her uncle George Huyton. Initially seduced by the sumptuous beauty of her surroundings and the charm of her new family, Lucy sees George as a benign, humorous, and loving man who has her best interests at heart. But beneath this veneer of civilisation, lies a dark, violent force, that wants to entrap, rule, and use her. When Lucy falls in love with Krishna, a labourer working on a nearby plantation, she finds herself at odds with her uncle, the ways of his world and his plans of an arranged marriage for her. No matter how fleeting Lucy and Krishna’s time together may be, the passion and all-consuming nature of true love is something neither can deny.

We are thrilled to be shooting in Mauritius with its stunning landscape, wonderful crew and rich history all combining for a movie I can’t wait to bring to screens around the world.”
