The Fan Carpet share our Experience of Jon Watts’ Marvel Cinematic Universe entry SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING in IMAX 3D

14 July 2017

This past week The Fan Carpet were privileged to experience Spider-Man: Homecoming in stunning IMAX 3D in Cineworld in London’s Leicester Square.

We have a full spoiler free review from Ben here, so this piece will focus on the IMAX 3D experience which was simply breathtaking. The depth of perception is noticeable throughout the film especially during the Washington Monument save, which adds to the stakes of the film.

Having experienced the film in IMAX 2D first and then experiencing it in IMAX 3D I was immersed into the film both times, but with the added depth of IMAX 3D and the colours popping off the screen and the sound, you are just fully taken on the adventure with Tom Holland’s amazing portrayal of The Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is an incredible addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe giving us a fresh take on a character that we have loved for so long. His suit pops on screen from the heads up display (HUD) named Karen voiced by the incredible Jennifer Connelly to him swinging though New York and the rich, vibrant colours, this is a spectacular entry, and with all the easter eggs, it just shows that you can pack all of references in that you want, without it feeling bloated.

Of course the hero is only as good as their villain, and this time around we have the magnanimous Michael Keaton as the villainous Adrian Toomes, who is a villain of circumstance, and as such you empathise with his plight and at so many points n the film, you are on his side and are rooting for him to succeed; although what he is doing is wrong, but he is seemingly doing it for the right reasons.

In summary, Spider-Man: Homecoming is an incredible film, a worthy entry in the MCU, and just goes to show that two competing companies can come together to create a wonderful time at the Cinemas, at this point I have seen Spider-Man: Homecoming three times and a key part of any Cinema experience is the rewatchability of said film, and I recommend that you should experience the film in IMAX 3D.
