The Fan Carpet Share Our Thoughts of the Opening Night of SCREEN REBELS: GRAVE TALES at The Phoenix Artists Club

26 October 2017

Last night The Fan Carpet’s Marc Jason Ali and Raj Virdi were in attendance at the eagerly awaited Halloween themed showcase GRAVE TALES from the phenomenal Screen Rebels team, hosted by our very own Ellie Torrez.

Appropriately dressed as classic Disney villainess Maleficent, Ellie introduced Grave Tales with the first musical act Screen Rebels favourite Tania Pais, who belted her rendition of the Rolling Stones classic Sympathy for the Devil, which lead into our first spellbinding show written by Screen Rebels founder Lorenzo Fantini; Dickie Dee & The Devil’s Library a wonderful show featuring the amazing cast of Ben Scarles, David Patrick Stucky, Georgina Parren, Danielle Carrington & The Ezerfox (I won’t spoil it, The Ezerfox was brilliant!).

Dickie Dee & The Devil’s Library is an engaging show with a terrific cast, with stand out performances notably from Danielle Carrington.

Next, Ellie introduced the second musical act of the evening; Veronique Piercy who sang Steve Vai’s In My Dreams With You, her powerhouse performance lead us into the incredible Heroine written by Screen Rebels showcase director Kai Henderson featuring the wonderful cast of Rosie Frecker, Iliana Efthymiadi, Alida Pantone, Tânia Pais & Daniel Jarvis.

In true Screen Rebels fashion, this was a wonderful show from start to finish, compelling and painted a wonderful picture with blood (you’ll see what I mean), with a stand out performance from Screen Rebels veteran Alida Pantone embodying a character that is the polar opposite of her.

After the interval, Ellie introduced Harry Boyd sang Bill Haley and his Comets crowd pleaser Shake, Rattle and Roll with a twist, which lead into our final show of the evening The Forgotten Skeleton written by Dilpreet Kaur Walia and starring Kai Henderson, Michelle Zahner, Véronique Piercy & Harry Boyd. The story about a forgotten Halloween Candy ‘Skeleton Four’ played masterfully by an unrecognisable Kai Henderson was engaging and heartfelt. His 'Skeleton Four' displayed a lot of heart and longing to forfill his destiny as a Halloween Candy, very funny and sweet.

A successful surprise came at the end when Screen Rebels celebrated the contributions of all round wonderful performer Rosie Frecker, who was honoured for an amazing 3 years of hosting, performing, narrating and writing, she's featured in half a dozen showcases, congratulations! Here's to another 3 years!

All in all, SCREEN REBELS: GRAVE TALES was an absolute triumph and it returns to the Phoenix Artists Club this Sunday, get your tickets here.
