Filmmaking legend teven Spielberg will direct Ready Player One adaptation
With an announced big screen adaptation of Ready Player One coming to cinemas, it has emerged that Hollywood royalty Steven Spielberg will direct the Sci-Fi epic.
Deadline reports that the legendary filmmaker will work with Warner Bros on the film, his first collaboration with the studio for 14 years, from a script by X-Men: The Last Stand and Avengers Assemble scribe Zak Penn that tells the story of a gamer from 2044, who attempts to find a hidden Easter Egg in a virtual world that comes with a great prize. The gamer, named Wade Watts, must decipher a host of clues based on 1980s pop culture.
Greg Silverman who serves as Warner Bros' President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production said "We are thrilled to welcome Steven back to Warner Bros.
We had an historic series of collaborations in the 1980s and 1990s and have wanted to bring him back for years.
He's a master filmmaker, so we feel very comfortable with him. The story is the main thing, and whatever works best for audience enjoyment is what we'll do."
Spielberg's next Directorial outing will be the Mark Rylance starring adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's book The BFG that hits cinemas in the UK and worldwide on July 22 2016.
