First look at Ian McKellan as Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon’s Mr. Holmes

05 February 2015

A trailer tends to precede a clip but that is not the case for Bill Condon’s Mr Holmes. The film stars Sir Ian McKellan as the aging investigative genius and it was Mckellan himself who gave us this wonderful first look via his Twitter account.

The film portrays a Sherlock Holmes audiences will be unfamiliar with. Now 93 and retired the once razor sharp sleuth is confronting the affect of age upon his immense mental abilities. In a bid to prevent the dimming of his brilliant mind Holmes undertakes a journey to Japan to find a plant that holds curative properties, on this trip he experiences first-hand the devastating affects of nuclear warfare.

The film joins Holmes after his return where he has retreated to a secluded farmhouse where his only companions are his housekeeper Mrs. Monroe (laura Linney) and her young son (Milo Parker).

As we see in the trailer Holmes comes to depend upon the boy are he revisits a case that made him renounce detective work and confront his declining health.

Mr Holmes does not have an official release date yet but will be premiering at the Berlin film festival, which began today.
