From DEAD POETS SOCIETY + GOOD WILL HUNTING To STAND AND DELIVER + THE SOCIAL NETWORK: 7 Inspirational Movies for Students

29 November 2022

Whether you are a high school student or at college or university, student life can be a tricky mix of studying, time management and socialising/networking. We all could use some inspiration to help us go on and movies can be a good, easy to digest way to gain inspiration given the amount of reading you need to do for university that can leave you burned out. So here are 7 inspirational movies you should watch if you are a student.

1.     Dead Poets Society

No list of inspirational movies for students would be complete without this absolute masterpiece of cinema. Dead Poets Society (1989) tells the story of John Keating who teaches his students to think out of the box and break from the status quo. Infamous for some of the delightful poetry this film is a great watch if you are feeling trapped in your studies and wanting to break free.

2.     Good Will Hunting

“There’s just something magical about a story of people finding their hidden talents,” remarks Karen Wiggins a movie writer from Assignment Help and UKWritings. Good Will Hunting (1997) tells the story of a gifted man who has never realised his potential, spending his days as a janitor at MIT. This film will inspire you to find what your talents are and encourages you to accept help when it is offered.

3.     The Theory of Everything

Stephen Hawking was one of if not the greatest scientists of the modern age. The Theory of Everything (2014) covers the progression of motor neuron disease that affected Hawking and how his mind kept him going throughout. It’s an emotional rollercoaster but is amazingly inspiring for students. This is especially true for those with special needs who may feel like the path to success is an uphill battle.

4.     Freedom Writers

“Facing adversity head on and being willing to believe in the talents of ‘at-risk’ students, Erin Gruwell is most students dream teacher,” observes review blogger Kirsty Davis, Essay Services and UK essay services reviews. Freedom Writers (2007) is sure to leave you looking at your teachers or lecturers in a new light while showing how the right teacher can truly make all the difference.

5.     The Pursuit of Happyness

The first of three bio-dramas to round off our list, The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) follows the real-life journey of entrepreneur Chris Gardner who fought for everything he had. Going from a homeless salesperson alongside his five-year-old son, Gardner became a successful brokerage house owner through sheer will and determination. Truly inspiring for those feeling like everything in life is going against them or that their lack of resources is leaving them at the bottom of the heap.

6.     Stand and Deliver

Stand and Deliver (1988) tells the story of Jaime Escalante, a mathematics teacher who supported his ‘no hope’ students to a passing grade. This film is a great inspiration for those struggling with their studies with its message of how anyone can succeed if they find the method that works for them. Pretty accurate to the true history of Escalante and Garfield High, the push back from testing services shows the bias some groups have and how fighting back can prove your worth.

7.     The Social Network

There are probably very few people who haven’t heard the name Mark Zuckerberg and even fewer people haven’t heard of Facebook. The Social Network (2010) is the true story of how Zuckerberg went from a Harvard student to a multi-millionaire through his conceptualised social network Facebook. It’s a story of betrayal, heartbreak, and ultimately success that shows you not to give up on your dreams and to push yourself to turn them into reality.

As you can see there is a plethora of movies that are inspirational for students in various ways, these seven are just the tip of a very large iceberg. Whether you need inspiration to keep going when the chips are down, you need inspiration for finding the best way for you to learn or even just that push to find what your skills and talents are, there is a film out there that will inspire you. So, get some popcorn and take a few hours away from the books to find some inspiration.
