Gary Oldman set to return as George Smiley in Smiley’s People

29 November 2011

With the success of John le Carré's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy there is now talk of adapting the follow up novel Smiley's People which would see Gary Oldman return to the role of George Smiley.

He tells ComingSoon.net "I think they're whispering now that they might do Smiley's People, not so much as a sequel, because there's a book in the middle actually, but we've set up the world and we'll revisit."

Smiley's People would see Oldman play Smiley even older than the character was in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and it is expected that Tomas Alfredson will return to the director's chair.

Oldman has recently been attached to the role of Merlin in Warner Bros. Arthur & Lancelot.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy comes to DVD and Blu-ray on January 30 and features the stellar cast of Tom Hardy, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Stephen Graham, Stephen Rea, Christian McKay and Kathy Burke.
