Georgia Oakley’s Award winning BLUE JEAN is embarking on a tour of the UK next week, ahead of its UK wide release on Friday 10 February.
The film will preview in Glasgow, Manchester, Hexham, Newcastle with special screenings in Sheffield, Nottingham, Brighton and a number of London venues. Many of the screenings will have filmmakers and cast participating in post screening Q&As.
Following on from its BIFA success having won four awards including Best Lead Performance and Best Supporting Performance, BLUE JEAN picked up a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for Georgia Oakley (Writer/Director) and Hélène Sifre (Producer). The film won the Audience Award at the Giornate Degli Autori at the Venice Film Festival and is also nominated at the London Critics’ Circle Awards for Breakthrough Filmmaker.
Releasing in LGBTQ+ History month (February), BLUE JEAN is set in England, 1988 – Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government are about to pass a law stigmatising gays and lesbians, forcing Jean (Rosy McEwen), a PE teacher, to live a double life. As pressure mounts from all sides, the arrival of a new girl at school catalyses a crisis that will challenge Jean to her core.
Filmed in the North East of England, BLUE JEAN is produced by Hélène Sifre with backing by BBC Film and the BFI (awarding National Lottery funding), in association with Great Point Media. It was developed with the support of BBC Film.
