Gibson film in protest controversy

31 December 2009

Relative of inmates at a Mexican prison have protested Mel Gibson's new film.

The Allende prison is the setting for Gibson's new film How I Spent My Summer Vacation, but relatives of inmates fear that their loved ones will be transferred to another prison to accommodate the filming. And hundreds of relatives staged a protest outside the prison, with one holding a placard reading: "No transfers to make a movie."

However, the prison director chief, Gerardo Duran, insists that transferring the prisoners was just a rumour but conceded that part of the prison will have to be cleared to accommodate the filming.
