GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO
Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson (Directors) have issued the below reaction in response to PINOCCHIO’s BAFTA nominations in the Best Animated Film, Original Score and Production Design categories. Pinocchio is the most nominated animated film at the 2023 BAFTA Film Awards and the only animated film nominated in categories other than Animated Film.

Statement from Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson (Directors) “We are honored to receive this nomination on behalf of the over two hundred artists who sculpted, carved, painted, lit, scheduled, dreamed and animated this labor of love. We carried this film for over a decade, in the hopes that we could deliver its message of life, loss and love. Many thanks to BAFTA for recognising our work.”

THE SWIMMERS

Sally El Hosaini (Director, Co-writer), Eric Fellner (Working Title) and Ali Jaafar (Producer) have issued the below reactions following THE SWIMMERS’ BAFTA nomination in the Outstanding British Film category.

Statement from Sally El Hosaini (Director, Co-writer) “I'm over the moon and so incredibly proud of our dedicated team. To be nominated for a BAFTA is the ultimate honour. Yet if the recently added amendment to the UK online safety bill occurs films like The Swimmers will be banned online as it will be a criminal offence to show footage of small boats crossing the channel in a positive light. As Clare Moseley from Care 4 Calais says: “Our country’s response should be a matter of open and honest debate. If this bill limits our ability to highlight the plight of refugees, it not only threatens their rights but sets a worrying precedent for campaigners.”

Statement from Eric Fellner from Working Title “Working Title are overjoyed to have two nominations for Outstanding British Film for both The Swimmers and Matilda alongside the other homegrown films. We are honoured that BAFTA have recognised our titles - although they're very different, they both represent the best of British talent and craft in the U.K. It has been a privilege to bring these stories about determination and courage to the screen.”

Statement from Ali Jaafar (Producer) “This is a day to celebrate the incredible Yusra and Sara Mardini, two real life super heroes. When I first read about their journey over six years ago I knew immediately it had all the makings of a film that could connect with audiences around the world. Thanks to the amazing efforts of Eric Fellner, Sally El Hosaini, and the teams at Netflix and Working Title, the film has now been seen by millions and Yusra and Sara continue to inspire wherever they go.”

BLONDE

Ana de Armas has issued the below reaction following her BAFTA nomination in the Leading Actress category for BLONDE.

Statement from Ana de Armas “I’m overjoyed! What an honour to be nominated for a BAFTA alongside some of the best actresses in the world. Having my work in Blonde recognized by such a prestigious academy means the world to me. Thank you so much!”
