Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma set to return to a galaxy far, far away with Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII

01 February 2016

Following the mammoth success of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, it has been revealed that Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma will return to a galaxy far, far away with Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII!

Whilst the fan favourite character was ever present in the marketing and toys, her appearance in the final film left fans disappointed, but rest assured we will be seeing more of her intimidating Captain Phasma in the eagerly awaited next instalment.

Speaking to People on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards pre-show, the Game of Thrones favourite said "I will be in the next Star Wars movie.”

Speaking about her excitement to be involved in the ever popular Lucasfilm franchise, Christie added "I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time, and then I was delighted when JJ Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man.

I felt it encouraged diversity and it was doing something new and it was an interesting bit of casting for women, and I hope that in something that was such a mainstream success it would breed more of those kind of opportunities for other women."

Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on December 17 2017.
