HAPPY TRAILS: Hit TV Show Parks And Recreation Set To Air 30-Minute Special To Raise Money For Feeding America
Because parks don't grow on trees
The hit American NBC comedy PARKS AND RECREATION, will return to air a 30-minute special today as a fundraiser for the charity FEEDING AMERICA’s Covid-19 Response Fund. The entire original cast featuring AMY POEHLER, CHRIS PRATT, ROB LOWE, RASHIDA JONES AND AZIZ ANSARI, will be a part of it.
The decision was made by co-creator MIKE SCHUR to revive the series after being asked by NBC since the show focuses on the government assisting citizens, which is relatable at this time. Schur wanted the episode to relate to everyday Americans who are lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but did not want to officially address the virus. Therefore, none of the characters will have COVID-19, but they will find ways to maintain relationships during quarantine. This special was written and produced in the past few weeks, where the cast had to film themselves remotely.
The sitcom, created by Schur and GREG DANIELS, aired for seven seasons between 2009 and 2015. It focuses on various characters who work and have issues with a Parks and Recreation Department in a fictional city in Indiana, U.S. Filmed as a mokumentary, it highlights many political satires yet realistic situations.
Parks and Rec received a Golden Globe Award (Poehler for her performance) and nomination for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, as well as four Emmy nominations. In 2012, it was named the number one TV series by TIME magazine.
The special will air on Thursday, 30th April at 8:30PM EST. All funds raised up to $500,000 USD will be matched byNBCUniversal, the writers, producers and cast of Parks and Recreation and the special's sponsors, State Farm and Subaru of America.
