Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 – In Cinemas Tomorrow – Harry Potter Pivotal Moments

01 December 2011

In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war.  The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe.  But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.

With only 1 day to go until the release of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™ - Part 2 on DVD and Blu-ray, we thought we would mark the end of an era with a comprehensive list of Harry Potter’s Pivotal Moments...

Philosopher’s Stone

Harry’s a wizard

The first, and most pivotal, moment is of course the when Harry finds out he’s a wizard!
His horrible aunt and uncle move the family away to a deserted island in an attempt to keep Harry away from Hogwarts, but good old Hagrid travels over on his flying motorbike to set him free, using the ever memorable words “You’re a Wizard Harry!” After that – the adventures begin!

Chamber of Secrets

The clash with a Basilisk

A Basilisk is a really big, really mean, snake. This particular Basilisk is guarding the Chamber of Secrets and the infamous Tom Riddle. In an effort to save Ron’s sister Ginny Weasley from certain death in the Chamber, Harry battles the Basilisk, and while doing so, finds out that Tom Riddle is in fact Lord Voldemort, the man who killed his parents and gave him his famous lightning bolt scar.

Prisoner of Azkhaban

Who is the real Sirius Black

In Prisoner of Azkhaban, we see an enlightening showdown under the tough Whomping Willow tree in the Forbidden Forest. Harry, Ron and Hermione are under the impression that a man named Sirius Black is responsible for the death of Harry’s parents Lilly and James. But after encountering Sirius in his Animaji form (a big black dog) they find out that he was in fact Lilly and James’ friend. Sirius was not the person who betrayed them all along – it was Peter Pettigrew, who is his Animaji form is none other than Ron’s pet rat Scabbers! Phew, what a lot of revelations for one scene!

Goblet of Fire

The Tri-Wizard Tournament

In the Tri-Wizard Tournament we see Harry battle through murky underwater obstacles, dodge dragons and find his way through scary mazes. All the while he is competing against visiting students from the schools of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. The first ones to complete all the tasks the Hogwarts contestants (Harry and Cedric Digory), but unbeknown to them, the goblet itself is actually a portkey that transports them to an awaiting Voldemort...

Order of the Phoenix

Ministry of Magic battle

Dumbledore's Army (a collection of students who band together in his absence) fly to the Ministry of Magic to save Sirius Black from torture and must battle Death Eaters & Bellatrix to get to him. Things get pretty darn close until Dumbledore comes and fights Voldemort himself. They’re both at the height of their power so it’s a close call as to who wins.

Half Blood Prince

Death of Dumbledore

After being chosen and subsequently sworn in my Lord Voldemort, Draco Mallfoy is given a grave task; he is ordered to kill Professor Dumbledore! When the time comes, after lots of failed attempts at poisoning and cursing, Draco gets Dumbledore alone and holds him at wand-point. Draco, however, can’t bring himself to kill his headmaster, so Professor Snape, (who has sworn an unbreakable promise to assist Draco in his task) steps in and kills the old wizard. Dumbledore falls lifelessly from the Hogwarts tower to the courtyard below. Hogwarts students then hold a wand’lit vigil for him; their goodness driving Voldemort’s signature from the sky.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1

The Death of Mad Eye Moody and Hedwig

With Voldemort taking hold on more and more of the wizarding and muggle world, the Order of the Phoenix band together to escort Harry from his house on Privet Drive to a safe place. They use Polyjuice Potion to transform themselves into 5 ‘decoy’ Harrys to confuse the evil forces who are searching for him. They encounter some Death Eaters on their journey and Mad Eye Moody and the faithful Hedwig are killed. It’s a big sacrifice, but Harry makes it to the Burrow unscathed.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1

Ron destroys the Horcrux locket

After saving Harry from drowning in a frozen lake containing the Gryfindor Sword, Ron steps up and plays the hero. A real coming of age moment for Ron, he smashes the locket with the sword, thus destroying one of the seven horcruxes keeping Lord Voldemort immortal.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -  Part 2

Ron and Hermione’s kiss

In the midst of a bloody battle with Bellatrix, Ron and Hermione finally do what we’ve been willing them to do for the longest time – they kiss! Smiles all round until they’re back to business and fighting evil.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

The death and eventual rebirth of Harry Potter

As he dies, Snape tells Harry to look at his memories, in them Harry see’s that Snape had always looked out for him, thanks to a great love for Harry’s mother Lilly. Snape’s memories also tell him that he is actually the last Horcrux. Thanks to Voldemort’s failure to kill Harry when he was a baby, Harry now holds the seventh piece of Voldemort’s soul, which explains their strange connection. Harry realises he must die in order to finally destroy Voldemort and save the world. He goes off to the Forbidden Forest to meet him for the last time, where Voldemort hits him with a killing curse. In death Harry is transported to a limbo’like place where the spirit of Dumbledore greets him. Dumbledore tells him that the last piece of Voldemort’s soul was destroyed by his own killing curse – Harry returns to his body and continues the fight with Voldemort. Eventually the Dark Lord’s curse rebounds and kills himself – leaving Harry the victor.
