Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 smashes box office records

18 July 2011

As if there was any doubt, but everyones favourite wizard, the one and only Harry Potter has smashed the all time opening weekend US Box office, with his Deathly Hallows.

The final chapter of the Harry Potter franchise has proved it's unbridaled popularity again by pushing The Dark Knight off of the top spot and down to second place with an unbelievable $165.8 million.

Other big hitters this week include Transformers: Dark of the Moon making $21.250 in its third week of release. Horrible Bosses was third with $17.6 million and Zookeeper was fourth with $12.3 million. Cars 2 came in at five, taking $8.3 million this weekend for a $165.3 million US total to date.

In seventh place is Cameron Diaz' and Justin Timberlake's Bad Teacher, as the comedy took $5.2 million. Larry Crowne was eighth with $2.5 million, Super 8 was at ninth with $1.9 million and Midnight in Paris continues to do well with $1.8 million in 10th.

So Harry Potter gets to go out with a bang, and Daniel Radcliffe and co get to add a few more zero's to their bank balance.
