Herculean Feat at London’s Marble Arch

23 July 2014

At 10am this morning (Wednesday 23 July), five-time British Strongest Man finalist Terry Hollands performed the Herculean task of pulling an 18-tonne truck across one of London’s most iconic landmarks, Marble Arch.

One of the world’s leading strongman competitors dragged the Hercules-branded truck 30 metres with his bare hands amidst rush-hour traffic to mark the imminent release of Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson.

In the nationwide release, both man and myth Hercules (Dwayne Johnson) leads a band of mercenaries to help end a bloody civil war in the land of Thrace and return the rightful king to his throne. A tormented soul from birth, Hercules has the strength of a God but feels the suffering of a human. Unimaginable villains will test the mythical power of Hercules in Director Brett Ratner’s gritty take on one of the most epic action heroes of the ages.

About Terry Hollands
Terry Hollands is one of the world's leading strongman competitors and was Britain's Strongest Man in 2007.

Terry was born in 1979 in Dartford, Kent having a birth-weight of 12lbs 14oz. He was a keen sportsman in his childhood, excelling at Judo where he gained his black belt and then going on to win three Kent Championship Titles, 2 Southern England Gold Medals and 1 Bronze at the British School's Championships. During this time, Terry started playing rugby for Sidcup RFC. He went on to play for NEC Harlequins and after 2 years went on to play rugby in New Zealand where he was granted a sportsman's visa.

On his return from New Zealand, he started a gym with a bodybuilder friend. He realised quickly that he was unusually strong, deadlifting 260kgs on his first ever attempt. This feat was noticed by two strongmen who attended the same gym. They encouraged Terry to take up strength training and enter his first strongman competition.

Terry's career as a strongman began in 2005 and success was almost immediate. He came second in England's Strongest Man in that year and went on to win the more coveted UK's Strongest Man in the same year. In 2006 he lost his UK title to Glenn Ross but turned his attention to the "ultimate" title within the British Isles, Britain's Strongest Man.

In 2007 he took the title of Britain's Strongest Man and went on to the World's to finish third, the first time a Briton has achieved a podium finish in 15 years. In 2008 he placed 10th at World's Strongest Man where like 2006, he was the only Briton to make the final.

He also has other successes, including modelling for a big and tall clothing company, appearing on television programmes (the most recent and high profile being Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway) and numerous publicity appearances for events being held by businesses.
