Hip-Hop + Pro Wrestling Meet In New HBO Series TRE CNT Produced By Dwayne “THE ROCK” Johnson and ISSA RAE

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Issa Rae team up to create a 30-minute, hip-hop, backyard wrestling series for HBO concentrated in Houston's Third Ward. Entitled "TRE CNT" (a play on the referee's 'three count' and 'The Tre', the nickname for 'Third Ward').

The story will focus on a young man (Cassius Jones) who uses his inheritance to create a wrestling promotion.  This show will be produced by Seven Bucks Productions, which includes Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, along with Issa Rae's Issa Rae Productions. Mohamad El Masri, known for Here and Now and October Faction, will serve as the writer. 

The series will highlight the community aspect of a working-class neighbourhood as his family, friends and the community come together to help make Jones's dreams come true. No release date has been announced nor has there been any casting information.

Rae and Johnson both have a history with the HBO.  Rae's comedy-drama, Insecure, which provided her with an Emmy-nominee, is currently on its fourth season, while Johnson and Garcia wrapped Ballers in 2019 after five seasons.
