Hours director for The Twilight finale – Breaking Dawn?

28 March 2010

Will Summit Entertainment split Twilight Breaking Dawn down into two movies? And who will direct?

It is reported that Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Bill Condon had apparently been contacted for a shot at the job and the report notes, Stephen Daldry's name is now also in the mix.

Seems that Summit Entertainment aren’t holding back when it comes to approaching big-name directors for their fang-chise capper Breaking Dawn.

According to sources, the acclaimed directors have been approached to helm the much-anticipated film, which Kristen Stewart confirmed.

Daldry received Oscar nominations for all three of his features, Billy Elliot, The Hours and The Reader, meaning he's hot property.

Melissa Rosenberg, who has written all of the Twilight movies so far, is still fleshing out the script(s) - we want to read the stage directions in there and see if she actually uses "lip-biting" as an adjective. When that’s done, Summit can make some official approaches to these high-profile helmers.

We still think they’re all a bit of a stretch, and would be surprised if any of them took up the offer. But it’s still interesting to see how much Summit’s ambition has grown since the first Twilight’s humble beginnings.

Will it be two directors for a split feature?

More on the film series...Twilight lovebirds Bella and Edward curl up in bed together in the third installment of the hit movie saga. The couple struggle with the idea of Bella becoming a vampire, as she debates what to tell her family about the transformation. "I have to figure out what to tell people - what I'm doing for Christmas and stuff, why I'm not visiting, why they'll never see me again," she says.

An ever-practical Edward replies: "After a few decades, everyone you know will be dead. That's the problem solved." The new scene from Eclipse is featured on the DVD version of the second Twilight film, New Moon, which was released at the weekend.

Edward, played by Robert Pattinson, hints to Bella, Kristen Stewart, that he is unsure about turning her into a vampire. "I know the consequences of this choice you're making. I've lived through it," he explains. "You believe I have a soul and I don't. But to risk yours, just for the sake of never having to lose you? That's the most selfish thing I'll ever do."
