House of Cards’ James Foley emerges as Frontrunner for Fifty Shades Darker replacing Sam Taylor-Johnson

21 August 2015

With a sequel to the lacklustre Fifty Shades of Grey coming to cinemas in 2017, it has been reported that House of Cards and Glengarry Glen Ross filmmaker James Foley is the frontrunner to oversee Christian and Anastasia's further big screen exploits.

Deadline report that Foley who's also directed Halle Berry's Perfect Stranger, has emerged as the top choice for the job ahead of Arlington Road’s Mark Pellington, Hysteria’s Tanya Wexler and Electrick Children’s Rebecca Thomas replacing Sam Taylor-Johnson on the erotic sequel, entitled Fifty Shades Darker and may also get signed up to direct the closing film in the trilogy 50 Shades Freed, and shoot them back-to-back.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan will be returning as Ana and Christian respectively for Fifty Shades Darker and the sequel will be written by Niall Leonard, the husband of series creator EL James.

Fifty Shade Darker is set for release on February 10 2017 with Fifty Shades Freed following a year later on February 9 2018.
