Hugo Weaving casts doubts on Red Skull reprisal for Captain America: Civil War

29 November 2014

Hollywood acting heavyweight Hugo Weaving, who returns to cinemas as Elrond in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Hugo Weaving has spoken about his involvement in the forthcoming Captain America: Civil War.

Weaving portrayed the power-mad HYDRA founder in Captain America: The First Avenger, and the iconic Marvel character has recently been alluded to in the series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Weaving expressed doubts about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the third Captain America outing directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, explaining "I haven't talked to anyone about it, so yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. No idea at all!”

In 2012, Weaving expressed that it was unlikely that he’ll return to the MCU explaining "It's not something I would want to do again.

I’m glad I did it. I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn't want to force someone to do it, if they didn't want to."

Captain America: Civil War will open on April 29 2016 and feature Chris Evans as Steve Rogers aka Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark aka Iron Man, it will also introduce Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and recently added Rush star Daniel Brühl to its cast in an unspecified role.
