Jake Gyllenhaal passes on David Ayer’s Suicide Squad

Following the reports that British acting heavyweight Tom Hardy left the Warner Bros adaptation of the DC Comics property Suicide Squad over issues with the script, it was rumoured that Jake Gyllenhaal was in line to replace Hardy, but reports suggest that the End of Watch star has passed on the film.

Variety reports that Gyllenhaal has turned down an offer to play supervillain Rick Flag, alongside Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad follows supervillains who are organised by the US government to work together as a black ops team in exchange for redemption is due to heas into production this April, so Producers are on the hunt to find an actor to replace Hardy.

Written and Directed by Fury and End of Watch filmmaker David Ayer, Suicide Squad is the second film to be released from DC’s interconnected cinematic universe and is slated for a August 5 2016.

Gyllenhaal was last seen in Nightcrawler and recently made his Broadway debut in Nick Payne's Constellations alongside Ruth Wilson.
