Jake Gyllenhaal set to play dual role in An Enemy

20 March 2012

Hollywood leading man Jake Gyllenhaal who is known for the likes of Donnie Darko, Source Code Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Zodiac has reportedly signed on to star in upcoming thriller An Enemy.

Variety report that the Brokeback Mountain star will play a dual role in the film directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script by El Rey de la Montaña scribe Javier Gullón.

Based on the offbeat novel The Double by Jose Saramago the story focuses on Tertuliano Máximo Afonso (Gyllenhaal), a depressed divorcee and history teacher who spends his nights reading about Mesopotamian civilisations.

He wakes in the night to find the VCR playing a film featuring a moustachioed man who is otherwise an exact double of how Afonso looked five years previously and the story follows his quest to uncover the identity of his double.

Villeneuve is expected to start work on An Enemy immediately, with the plan being to shoot An Enemy before the Hugh Jackman starring Prisoners.
