Jake Johnson and Annabelle Wallis join Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella in Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy reboot
Whilst Tom Cruise is set to do battle with Sofia Boutella’s monster in The Mummy reboot, it has been announced that Annabelle star Annabelle Wallis and New Girl favourite Jake Johnson have joined the impressive cast.
The Hollywood Reporter report that Johnson who is best known as loveable grouch Nick Miller in the aforementioned New Girl will take the role of a member of the military, a role that is said to be written specifically for him, while Wallis who can currently be seen in Grimsby is said to be playing a scientist or an archaeologist, a mirror to Rachel Weisz's Evelyn Carnahan from the 1999 hit that starred Brendan Fraser.
Set in the modern day, The Mummy will see Cruise as a special forces operative or a former soldier and is believed to be the first in a slew of monster remakes by Universal, who hope to rival Marvel's superhero cosmos. Van Helsing, Dracula and The Invisible Man are all said to be underway.
Johnson was last seen in his scene-stealing role of Lowery in Jurassic World from filmmaker Colin Trevorrow and Joshy from Jeff Baena which featured at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Meanwhile Wallis has Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro’s Mine, Zack Whedon’s Come and Find Me and Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur in post production.
