James Cameron’s Avatar facing Lawsuit

09 December 2011

Not all is going well in the camp of filmmaking legend James Cameron as he has been hit with a massive lawsuit for stealing the the plot of Avatar from an ex-employee.

According to the lawsuit filed yesterday against Cameron and his production company Lightstorm Entertainment, which says the director ripped off the story to a proposed film of Eric Ryder's entitled K.R.Z. 2068.

Apparently K.R.Z. 2068 was to be an "environmentally-themed 3D epic about a corporation's colonisation and plundering of a distant moon's lush and wondrous natural setting" which focused on "anthropomorphic, organically created beings populating that moon" and one of the major plot points sees "a corporation spy" fall in love with a native and lead a rebellion against the humans" which is what Sam Worthington's Jake does in the 2009 blockbuster.

Ryder is seeking unspecified damages as well as a portion of the film's profit since he made the complaint initially in 2009 when it overtook Cameron's Titanic as the highest-grossing film of all time.
