Jason Statham set to take the lead in J.J. Connolly’s Viva La Madness

12 November 2013

With a sequel to 2004's Layer Cake entitled Viva La Madness coming our way, it has emerged that British hardman Jason Statham will take the lead, replacing Skyfall's Daniel Craig.

Deadline reports that Statham and his manager and producing partner Steve Chasman have acquired the rights to J.J. Connolly's novel that follows the anti-hero as he tries to find somewhere to retire. However, he soon becomes involved with a trans-Atlantic drug deal, money laundering and fraud.

Viva La Madness will see Statham as Craig's nameless character, who was last seen trying to survive a gunshot wound in Layer Cake and mark the second film that Statham and Chasman produce as part of their SJ Pictures production company.

The pair recently completed work on Heat which is set for a release next year and sees Statham alongside Sofia Vergara, Milo Ventimiglia and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's Stanley Tucci.
