Jeremy Renner won’t replace Tom Cruise as Mission: Impossible lead

29 December 2011

It has been speculated for awhile that Jeremy Renner was replacing Tom Cruise as the lead in the Mission: Impossible franchise, but now the star himself has spoken out to address the rumours.

The Avengers hero appears with Cruise as William Brandt in the fourth instalment and has since been tipped to take over from Cruise's Ethan Hunt in future entries of the action franchise and tells Reuters "I heard that. I hear lots of rumours, no, it's not true about Mission: Impossible. There's no taking over. It's not happening."

The Brad Bird directed Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is out now and features Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Tom Wilkinson with a cameo from Michelle Monaghan and the two time Oscar nominee Renner will next be seen in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters with Gemma Arterton from filmmaker Tommy Wirkola.

Following that he'll take on the mantle of Hawkeye in Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble The Avenger at the end of April and he is currently filming the fourth entry in the Bourne franchise for filmmaker Tony Gilroy.
