Jessica Chastain, Olivia Wilde, Noomi Rapace, Brit Marling and Olga Kurylenko testing for Horizons

26 August 2011

Now that Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise is firmly in place to star in new sci-fi flick Horizons, the attention has switched to who will play the female leads opposite him.

Horizons used to carry the title Oblivion and according to the report from Showblitz, Jessica Chastain, Olivia Wilde, Noomi Rapace, Brit Marling and Olga Kurylenko are all gearing up to screen test with the Minority Report star for a role.

It is not yet known if the five actresses will go directly head-to-head with one another since there are two significant female leads in the script from William Monahan.

Horizons is based on the comic book series by Arvid Nelson and is the story of a post-apocalyptic future, in which humans are forced to live in clouds above an uninhabitable Earth. Cruise will play a soldier stationed on Earth in order to work on a series of drones charged with identifying and eliminating a malevolent alien threat.

With Cruise playing a soldier, one of the female leads is his military number two and off-duty lover, and the other is the fiancée he was engaged to before Earth was invaded by aliens.

Horizons will be directed by Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski and will serve as a reunion should Wilde join the cast.

One Shot is Cruise's next project, so it is thought that work on Horizons will begin early next year for a 2013 release.
