Vulture reports that the Golden Globe winning Zero Dark Thirty star has been cast as the Huntsman's (Hemsworth) love interest in the spinoff.
Chastain joins the cast of Charlize Theron who will return as Queen Ravenna and Edge of Tomorrow's Emily Blunt is expected to play a new villain.
Kristen Stewart is not reprising her role as Snow White, as The Huntsman will be set before the events of the first film.
Stepping into the Director's chair is Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who took over from Frank Darabont who exited the project in January.
Chastain returns to cinemas with the aforementioned Crimson Peak this October and Ridley Scott's The Martian in November alongside Kate Mara.
