John Wick – In Cinemas 10th April – Cast Retrospective

01 April 2015

JOHN WICK, the action packed film, zooms into cinemas 10th April and to celebrate its arrival, we are going to take an investigative look at the careers of the film’s leading cast members.

When a retired hit man is forced back into action by a brutal Russian mobster, he hunts down his adversaries with the ruthlessness that made him a crime underworld legend in John Wick; a stylish tale of revenge and redemption.

Keanu Reeves – John Wick

Keanu Reeves started out as an unknown wishing to be a teenage star. His more sizeable roles in the beginning of his career were geared towards a teenage audience due to his winning smile. Over the years, Reeves would go on to play an extraordinary variety of characters. A few years shy of a decade after he got his Hollywood start, he broke out of the teen film genre and landed himself in the successful action film Point Break. Hollywood still mostly saw this rising star as a comic actor, until his breakout role in Speed impressed and wowed audiences. As a master of tai chi and other fight techniques, Reeves is recognized for doing a large portion of his own stunts. Five years after his start in the action genre, Reeves starred in the science-fiction, action packed blockbuster, The Matrix, which earned him further accolades. Reeves has built a career on being the ‘come-back’ actor, and after dropping off the radar for awhile, Reeves made another comeback with the sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Something’s Gotta Give and Constantine also earned him great attention. This latest comeback sees the actor in the role of John Wick looking far from retired. This is definitely a comeback you do not want to miss!

Michael Nyqvist – Viggo Tarasov

Michael Nyqvist got a later start to his career, and an even later start to his breakout role. His first and second breakout performances were in the Swedish films Together and The Guy in the Grave Next Door, which were both international successes. It was in the Swedish film As It Is In Heaven, that really showcased Nyqvist’s knack for playing characters who are both vulnerable and also filled to the brim with rage. The Swedish franchise, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, put him even farther into the international spotlight. After he locked in the attention of Hollywood in this role, he then picked up a part in the fourth instalment of the M:I franchise, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. We should expect to see more from Nyqvist, who has proved he can play complex and dynamic roles.

Alfie Allen – Iosef Tarasov

Alfie Allen has been more recognizable for his roles in television than for his roles on the big screen. His start was in a Channel 4 comedy called You Are Here and just a few years later he demonstrated his talents in a dramatic role for the BBC1 series Casualty 1907. While he had a small role in the major motion picture, Atonement, his most notable television role to date is in the internationally recognised and well-received HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. It has been confirmed that he will be reprising his role in this series for the next season. He brings just the right mixture of grit and weakness to his characters.

Willem Dafoe – Marcus

Willem Dafoe’s first widely recognized big-screen role was in Loveless where he played a dark sinister character-lead. To Live and Die in L.A. saw him in the role of another villain, and then again in Streets of Fire. He said publicly that he did not want to stay type-cast as the villain. However, he did show a keen interest in roles that threw a character off balance as a result of feelings of fear and uncertainty. He showed his ability to play this character from both the side of a villain and a hero. His most pivotal role in breaking out of his villainous typecast was seen in Platoon. His stardom only grew with his role of the Green Goblin in all three Spider-man films. He continues to play complicated and dynamic characters, which can most recently be seen in The Fault in Our Stars.

Adrianne Palicki – Ms. Perkins

Adrianne Palicki has been in an array of popular television series’ from Smallville, to Supernatural, to Friday Night Lights. She has been most impressive in her butt-kicking action roles. Her most notable television-action role as of late has been her role in S.H.I.E.L.D. She also co-starred in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which showcases her on-screen action prowess spectacularly. In everything she does, she proves to be a force to be reckoned with.
