Jolie casting blasted by Patricia Cornwell fans

25 February 2010

Angelina Jolie's casting as Patricia Cornwell's book heroine Kay Scarpetta has not gone down well with fans of the best selling series.

They claim Jolie is "too glamorous" to play the small, middle-aged woman described in the books.

Indeed, it was Jodie Foster who was the first choice to star in the film adaptation. However, the Silence of the Lambs actress turned down the role, according to Cornwell.

One fan wrote on the author’s website, "As much as I love Kay Scarpetta and Patricia Cornwell, I will not be watching this movie. She just does not fit the Scarpetta profile. Terrible choice!!"

While another posted, "Angie is all wrong to play Kay. Kay is a 'striking' woman. She has class. Angie's exotic looks would take away from the actual characters."

While Jolie's casting has caused a backlash with the fans, Cornwell has approved of the choice She told the Daily Mail, "When Angelina came out of the left field last year, I was floored. Angelina had pithy things to say about what she wanted to do."
