Jon Favreau wants to return as Hogan in Iron Man 3

13 June 2011

While he won't be directing the third instalment to the hugely popular Iron Man franchise, it would appear that Jon Favreau will have some involvement with the hotly anticipated threequel.

Speaking at the LA Times Hero Complex Film Festival he appeared with Robert Downey Jr. before a double bill of the first two Iron Man films and hinted that he would return as Tony Stark’s bodyguard Happy Hogan and said “I want a love scene with Pepper Potts with my shirt on and I want to transform into The Freak."

In the Iron Man comics, Hogan mutated into a giant, savage, nearly mindless, superhumanly strong humanoid known as Freak following an experiment that goes horribly wrong.

Iron Man 3 is currently slated for a May 3 2013 release and will be directed by Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's Shane Black. At the moment there is no news on plot or casting, but there are strong indications that Don Chedle, Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel L. Jackson will reprise their roles and reunite with Robert Downey Jr.

As for Favreau, his next directorial offering Cowboys & Aliens will hit cinemas on August 19 and stars Indiana Jones legend Harrison Ford and 007's Daniel Craig.
