Jon Watts confirms his Spider-Man will be a coming-of-age film not an origin story

23 September 2015

With another Spider-Man reboot coming to Cinemas with acclaimed British Actor Tom Holland as the friendly neighbourhood superhero, it has been confirmed that the new film will NOT be an origin story!

Last year, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige promised that his Spider-Man would pick-up with the webslinger already under the cowl and in a recent chat with Empire, Director Jon Watts said that his film can present a different take on Peter Parker since cinema-goers have already seen his origin story twice joking "There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben.”

Watts went onto explain "I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high-school movie. We're really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He's just 15 now.

[Tom Holland] was pretty perfect. He's very athletic. He can actually do a backflip! If he didn't already capture the spirit of the character, with that on top the kid is Spider-Man."

Early rumours suggest that Marvel will focus on new villains for its solo Spider-Man, while also introducing acclaimed Actress Marisa Tomei as Peter's Aunt May.

Tom Holland is set to debut as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in next year’s eagerly awaited Captain America: Civil War from Marvel Studios, before taking centre stage in his first solo outing in 2017.
