Kathryn Bigelow, Catherine Hardwicke and Mimi Leder on the shortlist to Direct new TOMB RAIDER film

It looks as though Lara Croft will get new life on the big screen with word that a Tomb Raider reboot has been fast tracked with word that three acclaimed Directors on the shortlist to take the helm.

Tracking Board report that Oscar winning Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow, Twilight filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke and Deep Impact's Mimi Leder are all on the shortlist for the blockbuster based on the ever popular video game.

It was reported previously that The Walking Dead's Tricia Brock was said to be attached to the Warner Bros. and Eidos produced film, however the TV director passed on the project.

The new Tomb Raider is being written by Divergent and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles scribe Evan Daugherty.

Tomb Raider previously received the big screen treatment in the early 2000’s with 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003 sequel Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life starring acclaimed Actress Angelina Jolie.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is the next video game in the franchise which is set to debut in November.
