Kill Your Darlings star Daniel Radcliffe wanted as Freddie Mercury for Mercury biopic

24 September 2013

It looks as though former boy wizard Daniel Radcliffe will fill the void left by the departure of Sacha Baron Cohen from the Freddie Mercury biopic entitled Mercury.

The Daily Star report that producers are considering the Kill Your Darlings actor to play the late Queen singer following Baron Cohen's departure earlier this year after disagreeing with the film's direction.

It has been reported that Radcliffe has impressed bosses with his portrayal of poet Allen Ginsberg in the aforementioned Kill Your Darlings, and recently Queen's Roger Taylor has spoken about Cohen's departure from the film, explaining to Mojo "We felt Sacha probably wasn't right. We didn't want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved."

Talking about the progress of the biopic he commented "I thought the music business was slow, but this has been like swimming in treacle."

In other Queen news, Brian May recently promised fans that Mercury and Michael Jackson duets will be released soon.

Radcliffe's Kill Your Darlings opens on November 8 and features Elizabeth Olsen, Michael C. Hall, Dane DeHaan, Ben Foster, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jack Huston, David Cross and Kyra Sedgwick.
