Kristen Wiig’s Bridesmaids sequel involvement in doubt

04 January 2012

With the success of last year's comedy Bridesmaids, a sequel was inevitable and it seems that Universal are prepared to move forward without Saturday Night Live favourite Kristen Wiig.

In the hit comedy Wiig played Annie Walker, who is chosen as the maid of honour for her best friend's wedding but gets in a competition with one of the bridesmaids and tells The Hollywood Reporter "We aren't working on that. [Writing partner] Annie [Mumolo] and I aren't planning a sequel. We are writing something else."

However while Universal are ready to go ahead, a Universal rep says it isn't clear if Judd Apatow who produced the film is up for working on the project without Wiig and Mumolo adding "We are over the moon with the success of Bridesmaids, and if we do a sequel we want to get it right, we are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we'll move forward."

Universal chief Ron Meyer reportedly took Wiig out for dinner in an attempt to change her mind, but it would seem the actress didn't budge on the matter.

Wiig will next be seen in Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini's comedy Imogene which is set to arrive in cinemas this year.
