Liam Hemsworth Joins Expendables 2
I should have been excited, it should have been the greatest film of all time, I remember being about 13 and thinking they should make a film with Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willie, Arnold Schwarzenneger..that would be amazing! Fast forward several years and The Expendables comes out, all intents and purposes this should be the best action film ever made, I was bitterly dissappointed.
However, as the old saying in Hollywood goes...if something makes money, make more of it and soon after Expendables made a decent enough return, a sequel was greenlit almost straight away. The only slight saving grace is that this time round we have a new director onboard, namely Simon West, a relatively unknown brit who hit the big time when he made Con Air. A brilliant film combining lots of big action stars.
So we have Expendables 2, a film combining lots and lots of big action stars, with most of the cast from the first film already signed on, we'll have to see how West wrangles the testestorone. Today comes news of the additional casting of Liam Hemsworth, brother of Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, who will be playing a sharp shooter who presumably joins the team. Liam has just finished work on Hunger Games, as Gale Hawethorne...their mum must be proud.
The film is set to start shooting in October, so with my childhood dream already shattered from the first film, Expendables 2 could at least salvage something of this winning formula. Chuck Norris and Van Damme are also starring so theres potential for something quite special. Simon West as director seems like a much better idea than Sly directing, because at 60 running the whole show as well as learning your lines is a lot of work so at least he can focus on just looking tough and mumbling things now.
