London Fields Free Film Festival Programme revealed

23 September 2014

The programme has been announced for this year’s London Fields Free Film Festival, which takes place 17th – 26th October 2014.

The brand new festival aims to attract and bring together local audiences to enjoy a ten day celebration of cinema at a number of venues across London Fields. The festival will showcase an eclectic collection of features, documentaries, shorts, animation and experimental films, with a special focus on Hackney/London based themes and filmmakers.

Every event is free and the whole festival is organised by local volunteers. The full programme is here with highlights including:

• Under The Cranes, a meditation on the multicultural social history of Hackney, followed by Q&A with Director Emma-Louise Williams and poet Michael Rosen

• An afternoon marathon at Hackney Attic with films that feature the hottest man in Hollywood, Ryan Gosling - two of the films will be voted for in a heated online poll on the festival’s Facebook page

• The ultimate party of the festival with a triple bill of the East End's infamous Sink The Pink followed by DJ sets

• An evening of style splendour with Advanced Style & Student Fashion Shorts plus Q&A at the London College of Fashion on Mare St.

London Fields is known across the city for its quirky arts and cultures scene, from the bustle of Broadway Market with its books and broad cuisines to the indie films of Hackney Picturehouse. The festival aims to pay tribute to the talent of the area and engage its diverse community with free events taking place across a range of classic and new venues in the local area, to bring the neighbourhood together in a fun and free environment.

To help us raise money to cover our license costs and equipment hire we are currently setting up a small Kickstarter campaign. Any donations are more than welcome.

The London Fields Free Film Festival is part of the Free Film Festival community group and is the newest addition to the schedule. There are currently four other established Free Film Festivals across London - Peckham & Nunhead, New Cross & Deptford, Herne Hill and Camberwell.

About Free Films Festivals
Free Films Festivals is a community group formed in 2010 to promote free film screenings in neighbourhood venues.

There are currently four established Free Film Festivals in Peckham & Nunhead, New Cross & Deptford, Herne Hill and Camberwell, with new festivals currently being planned in Westminster, South Norwood & Thornton Heath, and London Fields.

Free Film Festivals appeal to people of all ages and all backgrounds. The aims of Free Film Festivals are:

• To create community-run film festivals in specific postcodes, small geographical areas or neighbourhoods.

• To promote community cohesion and social inclusion by bringing people together from across the community to enjoy a great movie and celebrate their local area too. Film is an ideal medium for this because it appeals to such a wide cross section of people.

• To promote skills development by supporting the running of workshops and filmmaking events and offering volunteering opportunities which give people the chance to gain new skills and interests.

• To support local filmmaking talent by creating opportunities for local filmmakers to bring their films to a wider audience by, for example, running short film events and competition

Free Film Festivals is about showing films in interesting local venues. It's about increasing the 'feel good' factor of people in the community by providing free and enjoyable events in popular public spaces, including outdoor screenings.

As well as free film screenings, Free Film Festivals can also include filmmaking workshops, such as animation sessions for children - to help people gain new skills and interests.

We are entirely not-for-profit and run by volunteers. Events are funded thanks to our partnerships with the community organisations and other supporters.
