LOOKOUT Star Meghan Carrasquillo Is Set To Premiere Her Directorial Debut BOT OR NOT At Screamfest’s 25th Anniversary This October!

The Fan Carpet are excited to present the Trailer and stills for BOT OR NOT, the forthcoming directorial debut from actor and filmmaker Meghan Carrasquillo ahead of its Los Angeles premiere at the prestigious TCL Theatre during Screamfest later this year in October!

We just spoke to Carrasquillo, who stars in BOT OR NOT, she also wrote, directed and executive produced the film, which she describes as “a deeply personal project”, tackling questions about identity, authenticity, and the nature of love in a tech-driven world. Actor and filmmaker Jadon Cal co-directed, bringing his guidance to the table and assisting Carrasquillo in her vision.

During our interview, when talking about BOT OR NOT, she said “My husband jokes and says I did things backwards, in the industry because I immediately started in feature films. Now I’m developing my first short film.

My short film is a Sci-Fi, Thriller and its really cool, because I originally wanted to dive in writing, directing and producing my own project but I didn’t know if I should go all in and try to make a feature happen or go with a proof of concept, because the more I wrote the script, the more I realised this is going to be a really big budget, so let me start off with a short film, a proof of concept and have fun dipping my feet to directing more, writing more and really sell the idea.

We filmed it last year, it’s called BOT OR NOT, we filmed in November and we had a really strict game plan with it; I only submit it to eleven of the top genre film festivals, and we are at Screamfest for their 25th anniversary!

I’m so excited, it’s going to be the best launch for us!

We are taking BOT OR NOT further than a short film, I can’t say if its going to be a feature film or a limited series yet, but it does have a journey with it.”

The official synopsis for BOT OR NOT says: In a world where reality dating TV and AI collide, Juliet, a brilliant young coder, is chosen to compete on BOT OR NOT! A cutting-edge dating show where contestants date two people at once! One human, the other a hyper-realistic AI robot. What begins as a thrilling experiment in love quickly spirals into a high-stakes game when Juliet realizes the show’s true algorithm was never written for romance, it was designed to manipulate, test, and control. As lines blur and trust unravels, Juliet must decide what’s real, who to believe, and how far she’s willing to go to escape the system.
