Variety reports that the film will focus on the legendary New York venue and founder Hilly Kristal, whose club became a huge fixture in the punk and rock scene, hosting such bands as The Ramones, The Sex Pistols and Blondie.

Akerman was last seen in the Jennifer Aniston starring comedy Wanderlust and has The Giant Mechanical Man from filmmaker Lee Kirk awaiting a release in the UK, and The Numbers Station, Cottage Country, Stolen and the made for TV movie The Smart One in post production.

She was attached to the lead role in Linda Lovelace biopic Inferno but apparently the film has been stalled due to the forthcoming release of the Amanda Seyfried starring Lovelace.
