Mara Wilson against Mrs. Doubtfire sequel plans

17 April 2014

Following the news that a sequel to the beloved comedy Mrs. Doubtfire is on the way, Mara Wilson who starred in the 1993 comedic gem alongside the cross-dressing Robin Williams has spoken out in opposition for the film.

Taking to Twitter, the Matilda actress, who played the youngest daughter - Natalie in the film said in a Tweet "Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think Doubtfire ended where it needed to end."

She followed it up with a second Tweet saying "There are many, many reasons I don't want to be in Mrs. Doubtfire 2. But they haven't even asked me (yet), so no need to worry."

Chris Columbus who directed the original is set to return to helm the sequel from a script by Elf's David Berenbaum.

Wilson left acting behind at the turn of the millennium, and recently told Us Weekly "Film acting is not very fun. Doing the same thing over and over again until, in the director's eyes, you 'get it right', does not allow for very much creative freedom. The best times I had on film sets were the times the director let me express myself, but those were rare."

Wilson last appeared in 2000's Thomas and the Magic Railroad and is known for her role in the remake of Miracle on 34th Street.

If a sequel does happen, where exactly does it go? The original wasn't exactly left open, and would it revolve around the same family?
