He recently shared his hopes for a Hulk standalone film, and actor Mark Ruffalo, who returns as Dr. Bruce Banner aka The Hulk in next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron from filmmaker Joss Whedon has hinted that the eagerly awaited film will be "a little bit darker" than Avengers Assemble.

Talking to MTV News, Ruffalo opened up about the storyline of the Avengers battling the evil artificial intelligence called Ultron, who will be portrayed by James Spader in the film "I would say that it's better, it's cooler, it's more awesome.

It's a little bit darker, but also really has Joss Whedon's incredibly witty and sly sense of humour."

Ruffalo added that Hulk fans will be pleased with his involvement in the Marvel sequel "[Bruce Banner] gets to do such great stuff."

Avengers: Age of Ultron wraps up Marvel's Phase Two when it opens on May 1 2015 and will feature Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Don Cheadle and Thomas Kretschmann.
